It is a tract with adjoining series of organs starting from the mouth and ending in the anus. Along with the hollow muscular tube-like structure, there are other organs. Mainly it consists of the mouth, pharynx/throat, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. It also includes organs like salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and other various structures.
Since this is amongst one of the critical systems of the body; disorders in any part of this system also have manifold symptomatology and outcome of those diseases can also become diversified depending on the severity, depth and chronicity of the condition.
